MEMO GONZALEZ & THE BLUESCASTERS
"300 Pounds of Tex-Mex Dynamite"

Memo Gonzalez and the Bluescasters....the crowd went crazy and the night setteled in to what would be a repeat of many nights to come, the alcohol flowing, the people screaming at the top of their lungs for just "one more" and the women uncontrollably "shaking their asses" a typical Bluescasters night!

Memo Gonzalez will be returning to the UK in May 2008 Click here for their gig dates.

4 video clips of Memo Gonzalez and the Bluescasters shot at the Stuttgart blues festival can now be downloaded from the bottom of their sounds n' CD's page, here.

Their journey through the blues took off back in 1995. You'd think they'd done 'n seen it all by now, after so many days on the road and so many nights in hotel rooms. Yet their tour bus keeps rolling through Europe, from town to town, from country to country, faster 'n ever -- its arrival eagerly anticipated by their ever-growing fan community. If you've seen and experienced Memo Gonzalez & The Bluescasters live, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Though these musicians have great respect for the blues as an institution, as a group they're firmly rooted in the present. "We want to be a band that's happening right now." That is to say, Memo Gonzalez & The Bluescasters aren't interested in re-creating the originals note for note. These guys present a rip-roaring mixture of blues, swing, and rock 'n' roll that they have branded their own. Few music genres must contend with as many prejudices and clichés as the blues, but Memo Gonzalez & The Bluescasters simply shake up the (in)famous 12 bars and set in motion an earthquake.

Memo Gonzalez hails from Texas. He originally made a name for himself in Europe when he toured with the "Texas Harmonica Rumble" (together with Gary Primich, Jon "Juke" Logan, and others). He has played clubs such as "B.B. King's" in Memphis, Tennessee, and "Antone's" in Austin, Texas, but he also commands the stage on the European side of the big pond with his fat harmonica ("the juicy tone") and his powerful voice. Memo's performance proves with every drop of sweat and every bounce of his slicked back hair that the blues is more than just pain, that it offers wisdom, wit, and a whole lotta fun.

The band's guitarist, Kai Strauss, can hold his own on any international stage. His breathtakingly intense playing mixes blues with everything that America has brought forth since the 1950s, though Kai prefers the down 'n dirty greats of the genre.

These days a bass player who just keeps on rocking and rolling is like the famous needle in the haystack. That's Erkan Özdemir for you. He's quite a sight, too, with a beat-up bass guitar that's slung so low, you'd think he's playing an upright. Erkan's groove has everybody jumpin' up and down in an instant, only to sound as lowdown 'n dirty as a roaring 350 Chevy-engine with glass-pacs.

Drummer Klaus Schnirring propels the group through the set. His sticks fall heavily on the two and the four beat, or create a driving jungle beat that gets under everybody's skin in no time. Those who have seen Klaus live know that he must expend about as much energy during a concert as a marathon runner.

What about idols? Yeah, Memo Gonzalez & The Bluescasters have those too. From Texan roadhouse blues, danceable Louisiana rock 'n' roll, all the way to roots influences, these guys run the whole gamut of the blues. But what makes them truly great is their style, the fun they have, and their take on the blues. When the band isn't off touring somewhere, they're busy working on a new CD, so there's more to look forward to. To date Memo Gonzalez & The Bluescasters have released Let's All Get Drunk and Get Tattooed (Live, 1996) and 10,000 Miles (1998).

Memo Gonzalez & The Bluescasters have appeared in almost all well-known European clubs and at countless festivals, for example, in Norway (Nottoden Blues Festival), Germany (Breminale, Unna Blues Festival), Belgium, The Netherlands (Moulin Blues Festival), the U.K., and the United States.

"Only someone who's blind and deaf could miss the greatness of this show."
