BLIND PIG RECORDING ARTIST "HARPER" BRINGS WORLD BLUES FROM AUSTRALIA :Part harmonica wizard part rhythmic explorer, Harper is a fiery artist who blurs the lines between rock, blues, soul and world music. His latest Blind Pig release, "Day By Day", displays his trademark virtuoso harp performances, distinctive instrumentation, deeply soulful grooves and instantly memorable songs and provides another prime example of why his unique roots music style occupies a category of its own. Harper has been described as "a singer with the deep soul of Motown, a harmonica player who can graft Sonny Boy II and Little Walter with John Popper, a songwriter who tells his own compelling stories in an unhurried, J.J. Cale-like manner, and a musical visionary who is unafraid to mix the didgeridoo, an important part of the Australian indigenous culture of his homeland, with infectious modern percussive rhythms". His skill lies in the fact that he is able to tap into the kindred spirits running through his traditional and modern influences, borrowing from western and world music to develop a highly original take on the roots genre. Harper's "world music meets rockin' blues fusion"style of music has earned him the headlining positon on major festivals across the globe. 2007 saw Harper and his band performing at an incredible 25 festivals in four different countries & 250 club dates. He also takes the harmonica beyond its assigned place. Harper’s innovative use of electronic enhancement and feedback breaks the traditional boundaries of the harmonica, giving his music its distinctive harmonics and effects.
Harper's new CD, "Day By Day" (Blind Pig Records) is a twelve track offering which is truly a festival for the ears and will feature heavily during Harper’s 2007 World wide tour. Harper's rich soulful voice, virtuoso harmonica solos and didgeridoo rhythmic sounds and vamps, create soundscapes to his modern day story telling. Harper's shows are witty, passionate and high-energy affairs. He is the consummate showman, backed by a very tight group of talented musicians: Tyler Mac on Guitar/ drums, and Ralph Reitinger on Bass guitar & Marc Dixon on Djembe/ Drums/ washboard. Harper has also received multiple Australian Blues awards for "Male Vocalist of the Year", "Song of the Year" "Acoustic Artist of the Year", "Album of the Year" and many awards for his harmonica playing.
Raised in the beautiful coastal city of Perth, Western Australia, now a US resident. Harper grew up listening to folk, soul and blues music and surfing Western Australia's incredible coast line. Harper has been taking his music to the world performing in Australia, the USA, The UK, Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Singapore and France. In recent years Harper began a journey of self discovery and revelation which began with a chance meeting with a Hopi "Dan Running Bear" in Silverton, Colorado , USA . Harper became fascinated with the spirituality and culture of the American Natives. He also became aware of how little he knew about the Australian Aborigines of his homeland. He set himself a course which completely changed his whole concept of the indigenous culture of the land in which he lived and this included learning to play the didgeridoo.
